Industrial front brightens


7,163 industrial units launched in Ernakulam

53,578 persons got employment in these units

KOCHI: Ernakulam District Industries Centre (DIC) has started 7,163 new industrial units and thereby generated employment for 53,578 persons during the last one year, Sebastian Pothampilly, general manager, DIC, said.

The rate of growth was higher than that registered during the previous year, he said. Among the new entrepreneurs, 626 were women, while 75 entrepreneurs were from the Scheduled Caste community.

The units attracted investments to the tune of Rs.1,427 crore, while the productivity from these units was pegged at Rs.2,870 crore. Eighteen units had been registered under the women’s industrial scheme for assistance from the government. Full story

Agappe Diagnostics eyeing 300 per cent growth

KOCHI: A leading name in the Indian Diagnostics Industry, Agappe Diagnostics Ltd, on Saturday said it expecting a turnover of Rs 80 crore this year. The Thane based company has moved its entire production facilities to the newly constructed state-of-the-art factory at Pattimattom in Kerala's Ernakulam district. Full story
