KOCHI: The Kochi Corporation has started preliminary steps to begin the functioning of the Brahmapuram Solid Waste Treatment, which will be commissioned on May 18.
As part of ensuring effective functioning of the plant and segregation of waste, the Corporation on Monday convened a meeting of various agencies such as Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Railway, Kerala Builders Forum, Confederation of Indian Industries(CII), Police and other PSUs.
Only segregated waste will be sent to Brahamapuram to be processed at the plant. It has been decided to launch intense campaign to create awareness among the people about segregation.
"Biodegradable and nonbiodegradable waste generated by the merchants and traders will be collected in association with the Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry," Mayor Mercy Williams said. Full story
